First Daylily of the Year

Well, yesterday I left home to be back on my job location in the Gulf of Mexico far from land. I won't be able to see any of my plants for two weeks. My poor wife will have to e-mail me pictures of any new blooms. Wouldn't you know, this daylily had the gall to wait and bloom my first day away from home!? I don't know the name of any of my daylilies, but I still like them. This is a cute pink with a burgundy interior and ruffled edges. Daylilies are so easy everyone should grow at least some of them. I recommend you mix them in with other perennials so that when they are not in bloom you can have other plants pick up their slack. They will grow about anywhere in the continental USA. This particular daylily is planted between some of my rose bushes.

My next door neighbor has that one...ok well my next door neighbor has 1500 varities..so they have a lot. But it is a beauty. I just had my first one bloom a day or so ago. Shouldn't be long and all of them them will be in bloom

Mine haven't bloomed yet. I have the ordinary roadside variety. I want one like yours - it's beautiful!

If you like this one you'll really like some of the others too. I have a white that is my favorite and also have a deep purple/wine colored one that is a stunner. I'll be posting pics of all of them in time.

So you are out at sea? on a rig? My goodness that sounds too far from dirt.

I use to know the name of this lily but sadly I went to bed and forgot--that happens when you meet too many plants you liked.

You have a very entertaining blog and I'll be back.

Be careful in Mexico, do not catch the flu, beautiful lily

I'm not actually in Mexico, but in the Gulf of Mexico. I'm actually on an oil platform less than 100 miles from the US coast.

Davie, I am very relieved though I heard there are flu cases in the USA too. I worried for you and wanted to show concern. But as the lily is more important in this blog, I say it is very nice. Thanks for posting.

Is that one Strawberry Candy? It's a nice pink.

I'm excited about daylily season and look forward to each blossom.

Wow, I think it is Strawberry Candy! That's probably what it is since the place I went to had mostly popular varieties, which Strawberry Candy is.
