Remember a few weeks ago when I posted a picture of this plant in a container? At the time, I didn't know where I wanted to plant it in the yard. Well, this is where it wound up. It's such a neat little plant with the orange "cigars" and the lush, green leaves. I had a hardy hibiscus planted in this spot, but it died inexplicably leaving a perfect place for this plant. It gets sun for a little over half the day, then shade in the afternoon. A good spot for the hummingbirds to come for refreshment.

It is doing great. I expect my Bat Face plants to be blooming any day now
I wonder if it gets big? Its leaves look very nice. it is an interesting plant.
Are you sure your hibiscus is not coming back? cigar plants do get big....Looks great!
Most of the hardy hibiscus in my area, including my other ones have already come out this year. I know they are notorious for being very late to come out in the spring. Just in case, I dug up all the roots and put them into a large pot in case it comes back. If it does, I'll find another location for the hibiscus.
I have had one in my garden for just over a year now and it grows wonderfully. Takes about a half day of afternoon Houston/TX heat, sun and the thing just won't stop blooming. I was concerned as it was getting too big for the space it was in and a gardner friend of mine just said whack it back, it'll be fine. I did and the thing just responded with lush foliage and more blooms. I love this plant almost as much as the hummingbirds that visit it!!
My plants are 3 1/2 feet tall and haven't bloomed all season. What am I doing wrong? Full sun all day, watered regularly. Now it's September in south Louisiana and my hummongbirds are looking for some blooms!
Man, Troy, I don't know what could be wrong with yours. Mine is about 4 feet tall now and blooming like crazy. I've even cut it back once to keep it more bushy. Just keep watching it.
Thanks, man. I'll keep looking. :-)
